No objection letter.

When you go abroad for a specific aim, there are various documents that you may need to have prepared to take with you, to be able to carry out those acts to begin with. The No Objection Letter is one example of these documents.

The No Objection Letter can be used for a variety of situations, that all relate to responsibility being given to someone else as they go abroad. Additionally, the letter acts as proof that permission has been given to the person issued with the letter that they can do something.

Keep reading to find out more about what types of situations a No Objection Letter can be used for, how you can get a No Objection Letter, and why you will need a Notary Public to be able to use it abroad.

What situations can a No Objection Letter be used for?

As it is a very versatile document, a No Objection Letter can be used for various reasons, ranging from education, to work, and more.

A list of situations you can use a No Objection Letter for includes:

  • As part of a visa application to prove that your employer or educational institution has approved that you can take the time off
  • Giving permission for your child to move abroad with their other parent
  • Providing permission for someone to use your land or property; for example, to develop the land

It should be noted that you will not always be asked to provide a No Objection Letter, such as in the case of applying for a visa. Whether you need one for a visa application or not will vary based on the country you want to go to.

How to get a No Objection Letter

To be able to get a No Objection Letter, you will need someone else to write it for you. You cannot really make one yourself, as it is meant to be proof of someone else not objecting to you going abroad.

The person will need to write the letter, include all the required information such as their name, address and date, and then sign it.

For example, if you need to get a letter from your employer, you should just ask your boss or manager. This should not be an issue if you have booked the time off work.

Notarising your No Objection Letter

Before you can take your No Objection Letter abroad as proof that you have permission to do whatever it is you want to do, you will need to get it notarised by a Notary Public.

Getting your letter notarised means that it has been checked by a Notary Public registered with the Faculty Office, and recognised as an authentic document. The notary will also check that you are who you say you are, and then act as a witness to you signing the No Objection Letter. Then, they will stamp and sign the letter themselves.

Once your document has been notarised, it will then need to be legalised.

Legalising your No Objection Letter

There are two legalisation processes that you may have to put your No Objection Letter through, depending on the country you want to go to.

The most commonly accepted form of legalisation is by getting an apostille from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Over half the countries in the world accept apostilles, which are a quicker way of getting a document legalised.

Countries that do not accept apostilles instead have a lengthier embassy legalisation process, with the process varying from country to country. Some even accept apostilles as part of their embassy legalisation process.

Legalising your letter is required for the country you want to go to to accept it as a valid, legal document.

We can also assist you with the process of legalisation.
