Though you have already likely met the requirements, we thought it would be helpful to cover what you should know before you start applying to study medicine in Bulgaria.

The requirements can vary to a small degree depending on the university, but they are generally quite similar.

They include the following:

Be at least 17
Pass an entrance exam
Hold grades in biology and chemistry which will be assessed (for example, A-levels) with a minimum grade of 62%
Pay a fee which varies by university

Alongside these requirements, you will also need to provide a few documents to study medicine in Bulgaria, which we will cover in the next section.

Documents that need notarising

Now we have covered the general requirements, we will now go through the documents you will need to be able to study medicine in Bulgaria.

The documents you need should be the same regardless of which university you are studying at, and include the following:

Bulgarian Student Visa Type D
Copies of certificate proving completion of secondary education
Transcript of subjects studied at secondary level and your grades
Recent health certificate from no more than a month before your visa application
Passport copy
Two passport size photographs
Certified translations of your documents
Proof your qualifications allow you to study at university in the UK
Recognition by Bulgaria’s National Centre for Information and Documentation (NACID) for academic recognition to give your existing qualifications equal status to those issued in Bulgaria

If you are required to provide any other documents, you will likely be informed by the Bulgarian authorities.

Several of these documents will need to be notarised by a Notary Public before you can use them to begin studying medicine in Bulgaria.

Which Bulgarian medical universities offer courses in English?

It is to be expected that a country that does not speak English will not offer many courses in English. However, a few universities offer medical courses that are taught in English so as to attract students from abroad.

It should be noted that you will be expected to learn Bulgarian to some extent, so that you can interact with patients during your studies. Learning Bulgarian will also make it easier to live life in Bulgaria outside of your studies.
