International passport applications

International passport applications

International passport applications have a range of requirements that you will have to meet. Before you apply for a passport for whichever country you are eligible to do so for, you should read about what you need to do.

Read on to see the possible required documents, and how we can help you.

What do I need to apply for an international passport?

If you are applying for a passport from another country whilst you are in the UK, then there are some required documents you will need to provide.

The documents include:

  • Birth certificates
  • Marriage certificates
  • True copy of your UK passport

Please be aware that other documents may also be requested when you apply for your passport.

Why you need a Notary Public

To be able to carry out international passport applications, you may be asked to get your official documents notarised and legalised.

A registered notary, such as our Notary Public of England and Wales, Nathan Woodcock, can help you with this. He will ensure that your documents are notarised according to the requirements of the country for which you are applying to get a passport for.

Please note that certificates from the General Registry Office (GRO) cannot be notarised, as they are automatically certified as true. However, they can still be legalised. You can visit our blog on the topic if you would like more information about why GRO certificates cannot be notarised.

There are two ways for documents to be legalised. They can either be legalised by being given an apostille, or through the process of embassy legalisation. We can manage both of these processes for you.

To get an apostille for your documents, we will work with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to ensure that your documents will be ready for use abroad. We offer a standard service that takes 10 to 15 days, and a fast-track service that takes 5 to 7 days.

Whilst most countries accept apostilles, some do not. For those that do not, we will work with the embassy of the country you want to go to, so that your documents are legalised according to their requirements.
