Employment letters represented by someone notarising one.

Employment letters cover a range of different documents that are used for varied purposes. Regardless of what type of employment letter you have, if you need to use one abroad, then it will likely need to be notarised and legalised.

As a Notary Public, we are able to carry out both the notarisation and legalisation of your employment letter, as well as any other related services you may need, such as translations.

Below, we will cover the different types of employment letters you may come across and the situations you may need them for. Then, we will discuss our services in greater detail so you know what we can do for you.

  • Experience letters – needed to prove your work experience for job applications
  • No objection certificates – employers can provide these to allow you to carry out certain activities outside of employment
  • Reference letters – as the name suggests, this is essentially a reference from an employer that discusses skills and job performance
  • Salary certificates – used to verify a person’s income

This list is not exhaustive, so there could be other types of employment letters that you come across as well. Nevertheless, other letters can be notarised as well.

Situations they can be used in

Next, we will cover the situations in which employment letters can be used. Different letters can have more than one applicable circumstance.

Common examples of when an employment letter is needed include:

  • Education abroad – if you want to study at an educational institution overseas, then you may need some form of employment letter
  • Financial transactions – salary certificates and other letters may be needed to apply for loans, mortgages or something else related to finances
  • Job applications – to work abroad, you will need to provide past references and relevant work experience through a notarised employment letter
  • Legal proceedings – employment letters can be used as part of legal proceedings as proof for a case
  • Visa applications – those who want to live in another country either temporarily, or permanently, will need to get various employment letters notarised if they also want to work in their new home

Like with the previous section, this list does not cover every situation that an employment letter may be needed for. There may be other less common circumstances where you will need one.

Additionally, you may need more than one letter in some cases.

Our services

Now you know all about employment letters, it is time to tell you about the ways in which we can help you so that you can take them overseas with you.

Notarisation

First and foremost, our notary services are a necessary part of ensuring that your employment letter can be used in another country. No other step can be taken without notarisation.

Essentially, a notary will certify that your document is real by providing their stamp, seal and signature.

They will also verify your identity so that it is proven you are who you say you are, which is a required part of notarisation.

Legalisation

Once your employment letters have been notarised, they will then need to be legalised. This is also a necessary step to be able to take your employment letter abroad, as it checks that the notary’s information is valid.

There are two common types of legalisation; the one you need will depend on where you are wanting to go.

First there are apostilles, which are accepted by most countries in the world. These are essentially certificates that are attached to your document to prove that it is legitimate. They were introduced by the Hague Apostille Convention as a faster way to legalise documents.

In the UK, apostilles are issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

At our firm, we offer several packages for apostilles that suit different financial situations and timescales.

Then, there are embassy and consulate legalisation. These forms of legalisation are basically the same and are much lengthier than getting an apostille alone, as more checks are involved. Additionally, due to every country having a unique process, there is no specific timeframe for these forms of legalisation.

Please note that embassy legalisation still involves your documents being issued with an apostille from the FCDO.

Just like with apostilles, we can assist you with every step of the complex embassy legalisation process, so that you have less to worry about.

Translations

Finally, if you are going to a country that does not use English as an official language, then you will need to get your employment letters translated into an official language of that country first.

We can handle the translation of your documents for you.
