What are Articles of Association?
Articles of Association are the rules which are used to run a company. Shareholders, directors, guarantors and the company secretary all decide and agree upon what the rules will be when they form the company.
These important documents are a requirement of setting up and registering a limited company in the UK.
Articles of Association are often accompanied by a Memorandum of Association. The two documents are both needed to set up a company.
How do I make Articles of Association?
To make your Articles of Association, you can either use a ‘model article‘ from the Government’s website, or write up the entire document yourself.
There are different types of model Articles of Association that you will need to choose depending on what kind of company you have set up.
The different models are for:
- Public companies
- Private companies limited by shares
- Private companies limited by guarantee
Why you need a Notary Public
You may have to provide Articles of Association if you plan on expanding operations overseas and to open bank accounts. A Notary Public can assist you by notarising your Articles of Association for you, so that your documents are accepted as valid. This is something we can do for you here at Woodcock Notary Public.
Alongside notary services, we can also assist you with getting an apostille, or with the process of embassy and consular legalisation. These are required if you plan on using your documents overseas.
By working closely with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Develop Office, we can manage the whole process of getting an apostille for you; you will not have to worry about doing it yourself. We offer a standard apostille service that takes 10 to 15 days, and a fast track service that takes 5 to 7 days.
Though most countries accept apostilles, many do not. Embassy and consular legalisation is a requirement of the countries that do not, such as the United Arab Emirates. We will ensure that your documents meet the requirements of the country you wish to go to.
